SILVERTONE/HARMONY MODEL: NEWPORT
Harmony Model: H42/1
1952/1953

Silvertone-Harmony - model H42-Newport Sunshine Yellow, solid body electric guitar 1952 This is an extremely rare and very clean, Silvertone, Newport (H42/1), solid body, electric guitar made by Harmony of Chicago (Harmony model: H42/1) from either 1952 or 1953. The pot date is 1952. (So it's as old as the earliest Les Pauls.) It's fully functional and plays great. The neck is straight and thick. All the electronics work properly. It's 100% original. The original rubber bumper binding is all there and in excellent shape. The guitar has stacked volume and tone controls along with a tone-defeat switch. The sound is rich with a bit of a bite. When you play this guitar you'll feel like you're there with Les Paul inventing the first sold body "slab" guitar. It comes with a gig bag. Both players and collectors will appreciate this guitar.Description from VintageSilvertones.com

GENERAL INFO/CONDITION:
The body is painted Sunshine Yellow and is made from solid piece of wood. The body uses Harmony's Harmometal trim which is aluminum with a inner rubber "bumper." The guitar does not show much playing wear at all. But, there is some paint flaking off on the edges. There's also some crazing in the finish. But overall, it's very clean for 57 years old or so. There was a repair to the bridge. It had partially cracked and come loose from the body. But it was repaired and is now in proper working condition.

PICKUP:
One single-coil pickup possibly an early DeArmond with strong, biting tone. One tone kill switch to turn off the tone control. Nice stacked bakelite knobs in black and white. All original pots and wiring. All the electronics are in proper working order. The pot number is 173 5255 (the last 5 is hard to read). So it was made in either a 1952 or 1953.
